Able to do a little work this morning before I head to work. I picked up a Sierra 1/5 tailwheel bracket and got it installed. I’m not happy with the wheel, tad small. I need to find one 1 3/4” by 7/16 wide.

DuBro has one 1.75 in diameter by 0.674 you might be able squeeze in.

Today I finished skinning the underside of the stabilizer. Then built a saddle and glued it up this afternoon. The upper stringers are glued and I started on the vertical stab. I’m going to do some beefing up here I think, the plans have it built very light(which is good), but I feel it needs a vertical support midway, at least bass stringers vertically. I hate to add any extra weight to the tail, but I feel it needs some structure there.

It’s a Qooltec:
Cheap but it works great, I did need to calibrate the crosshairs before use. You can rotate the optical head with a flathead screwdriver, it took 5 minutes of leveling surfaces and then projecting against a leveled crosshair on a wall.

This morning I started on the elevator halves, The plans have them joined up for single point of operation, but I’m planning to run independent servos for each side, I like the redundancy.

This morning I finished the left elevator half. I needed a break before doing the right side so I went into the vertical stab. I ended up adding a bass stringer vertically just for some added structure. Finished up the upper saddle and sheeted the vert stab. The forward area needed sanded balsa stock(to many complex curves for the sheeting. Final sand to go on all this but it’s moving quickly. I’ll finish other elevator half tomorrow. Starting to see a spitfire!

That’s the exact engine I was wanting to try on this bird, but...if you look through the cowling in those photos you’ll see the firewall, the cowl slides a good 8 inches aft of firewall for the scale location. I measured and length it was going to be too short(I could have relocated the firewall aft) but the biggest problem was the dla’s carbs are side mounted. Along with even a pitts or header style muffler, they would have been sticking outside the cowl all over the place. So I went with the good ole dle-55ra. Nothing exotic, but I know the engine and it’ll pull her just fine at 23-27lbs

I was able to finish up the elevator halves yesterday, and started on hinging. I also found a tailwheel in an old lot of parts that’s the exact right size.
One problem I’ve ran into is the spinner. The one I was planning to use isn’t quite right, it’s too long. I need a 5” diameter by 5” length. The only mkix style I’ve found in this size is the top flite giant scale mkix spinner. I put a want ad out on regroups, but unfortunately that arf, as well as it’s parts are a rarity. If anyone knows of a 5”x5” scale spitfire spinner I’d love any info/help!

Thanks Rumen! It’s coming along, I was going to talk to truturn or Dave brown about custom spinners. I’ve searched all over and cannot seem to find a scale 5”x5” mkix style. Again the one I have is close, but it’s 1/2” too long and I feel like it’ll be noticeable too long once installed.

I made 1/5 spinner by carbone fiber to , but my backplate is made by 3D printer and I can't sell it because I am not sire how strong is the structure. The bacplate is made by PETG ....

I saw that on your page, beautiful work! It’d be the perfect static display spinner. Hopefully someone has the old top flite spitty spinner laying around in a box they’ll sell me! Or I’ll be going custom. After all the work/time one puts into a kit like this, you really want the lines to look right.

Have you checked with Dave Brown? They do custom spinners if a stock spinner won't work and they do have a 5" X 5" spinner.
